HEAL-D Research Study

Posted on:

Do you have a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes? If you live in Manchester, you could be eligible to participate in our collaborative research study with HEAL-D and the University of Leicester.

HEAL-D stands for Healthy Eating & Active Lifestyles for Diabetes, and is a group-based type 2 diabetes training and support programme.

For this research study, we’re comparing standard diabetes care against a culturally tailored diabetes programme for those of Black Caribbean or Black African heritage.

Did you know that if you are of Black African or Black Caribbean heritage, you are up to four times more likely to develop type 2 diabetes? In addition, in the current health climate, Black people are prone to worse outcomes than people of white ethnicities.

Research plays an important part in uncovering the reasons for the present reality – and if you take part in this study, you could be part of rewriting the story of Black people and diabetes.

If you are interested in taking part and in learning how to live better with type 2 diabetes, please email: heal-d_study@leicester.ac.uk to register your interest or find out more.

If you have specific questions, you can get in touch with our Community Research Officer, Miriam Ejim by calling 07385 129320.
